Body Oils

We have all tried body oil before, but lately the buzzword moisture-oil has been doing the rounds and body oils are becoming more of a staple part of the skincare routine.

So what is the fuss all about?
The beauty of body oils are they absorb quicker and deeper than most lotions, which promotes healing of the skin. A very interesting fact is that body lotions tend to have more water content and does not last as long as body oils. Now I am not saying stop using your beloved body lotion, just to rethink your moisturising routine. Whether you prefer to use a body oil alone, or mix them with lotion for double the moisture. Incorporating a good body oil will have your skin feeling more hydrated and looking radiant.

A good body oil should be non-greasy, lightweight and incredibly hydrating. With ingredients like jojoba oil, avocado oil, and almond oil your skin will feel soft and moisturised.

The Moisturizing Bath & Body Oil range from Dr Teal has a new Moisture + Nourishing body oil that is filled with jojoba oil, sweet almond and cocoa butter that makes your skin feel like a beautiful tropical day in the Caribbean. Its lightweight moisture will be perfect for those summer months when your skin needs some extra hydration.

Apart from the amazing hydrating benefits, certain oils can also help repair and heal scars, soothe irritated skin and help reduce the appearance of stretch marks.

Justine’s Tissue Oil is the most luxurious body oil and one of my favourites when it comes to fading the appearance of stretch marks and scars. Made up of natural sweet oils, it leaves my skin feeling soft and looking beautiful.

Oils like rosehip oil, which penetrates deep into the layers of the skin to repair. Lavender essential oil with therapeutic benefits to calm and geranium essential oil, which can help improve skin’s elasticity are definitely worth looking out for.

The NIVEA Q10 Plus Firming + Even Body Oil is one of my current favourites. I was so happy when Nivea decided to add a body oil to their famous Q10 Firming Range. The best of both worlds, nourishing and firming the skin at the same time. I love applying this beauty when I have limited time as it absorbs quickly and I can get dressed immediately. Perfect for those days where’s just not enough hours to get everything done…

Not forgetting the sensitive skin types out there. Bennetts Baby Bath & Massage Drops are amazing and a budget friendly oil with real moisturising results. A perfect product for those that are prone to eczema and have a sensitivity to fragrances. I use it in my kids’ bath water all the time and they love it, but now this mommy loves it even more after adding a few drops to my own bath water and seeing how soft and hydrated my skin looked and felt afterwards.

So what is the best way to get the full benefit from your oil?

When applied to clean, exfoliated skin, body oil can be applied daily to the whole body. In winter you can add a rich body cream for extra hydration and in summer stick to only applying your body oil, leaving your skin feeling light and glowing…

Your body oil is best absorbed on damp, warm skin, so applying your body oil directly after a shower or bath will give your skin that extra kick of hydration.

With just a few drops in your bath water, it’s the perfect way to help lock in moisture while soaking away all your daily worries and stresses…

Body oils are so incredibly versatile and can even be use for your hands and nails when they need some extra tender loving care.
